Citizen Police Academy Begins October 18th

The Parma Police Department is currently taking applications for this Fall’s Citizens Police Academy with limited space available.  The academy is free in cost for those individuals selected and runs weekly on TUESDAY evenings from 6:30pm-9:30pm.  The academy is 10-weeks long and will begin on October 18, 2022.

The Citizens Police Academy program opens the lines of communication between the Community and the Parma Police Department by allowing citizens a firsthand look at the rules, regulations and policies the police follow.

The objective is not to train individuals in becoming “Police Officers,” but to produce informed citizens. The Citizens and Police Officers meet each other face to face in a neutral, friendly setting and each becomes a person to the other. In the past, citizens have simply seen a uniform, now they have an understanding about the person behind the badge.

Requirements for participation

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Have no serious criminal history
    • (Finger prints and background checks will be performed)
  • Be physically able to participate in active class events
  • Commit to attend 10-weekly three-hour sessions
  • Sign required waivers and agreements
